Here's to a life well lived

Not every dad will give your baby doll a bottle while relaxing with his own :)
Here's to a life well lived....

It's hard to believe it was 12 years ago today my dad died. Sometimes it seems like yesterday. Other times I struggle to remember the feeling of his cheek when I hugged him or the way he always laughed the hardest at my ridiculous jokes. My dad loved the simple pleasures; a cold beer; a beautiful drive. He was a steeplejack. Fearless. Climbing to the tops of flagpoles to paint them or to the tops of steeples and bridges to repair them. He was kindhearted. He could talk politics or world events or he could talk the best horse at the track. He knew how to have fun on a Friday night but he also knew how to be sure his daughter was safely home and in bed before midnight when she was under his watch. He was humble. Imperfect. He made mistakes; lots of them. But he had a goodness I always recognized, in spite of the mistakes, that made the world just a little bit better.

It's my hope that when all is said and done, my goodness will somehow shine brighter than my all my mistakes, too.

Cheers to my dad and a life well lived
